Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -7.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Niger (+86.2%), Lesotho (+71.3%), Tanzania (+15.1%), Cote d'Ivoire (+12.5%) and Botswana (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +86.2% from 2012-2021. Lesotho (+24 p.p.), Tanzania (+6 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+2.2 p.p.) and Niger (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -21.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest bearing housing without ball bearing supplier in Africa, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lesotho ($X), with a 2.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 0.7% share.

In South Africa, bearing housing without ball bearing exports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lesotho (+73.5% per year) and Tanzania (+14.2% per year).

In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 17%. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
