Bedspread Market Size in Africa

The African bedspread market reached $X in 2021, surging by 3.9% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. In value terms, bedspread production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas shipments of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) increased by 76% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bedspread exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Egypt (X units), South Africa (X units) and Morocco (X units) represented roughly 68% of total exports in 2021. Benin (X units) took a 9.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Uganda (6.1%), Mauritius (5.4%) and Rwanda (4.6%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of +61.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Egypt ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mauritius, Benin, Uganda and Rwanda, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Benin, with a CAGR of +39.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -19.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while Rwanda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Bedspread Imports

Imports in Africa

In 2021, approx. X units of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) were imported in Africa; with a decrease of -68.9% on the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 186%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, bedspread imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 166% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Algeria (X units) and Egypt (X units) represented roughly 37% of total imports in 2021. Libya (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Mozambique (X units), Morocco (X units), South Africa (X units) and Tunisia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 31% share of total imports. Madagascar (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Angola (X units), Kenya (X units), Botswana (X units) and Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +39.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bedspread importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), Algeria ($X) and Libya ($X), with a combined 58% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, South Africa, Mozambique, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Angola, Botswana and Senegal, which together accounted for a further 30%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mozambique, with a CAGR of +37.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, growing by 34% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
