At the same time, Tanzania (+31.8%) and Mozambique (+13.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest wood bending machine supplier in Africa, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 3% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 2.7% share.

In South Africa, wood bending machine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (-5.6% per year) and Tunisia (-13.3% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 122% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 6,156%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, wood bending machine imports in Africa soared to X units, rising by 43% compared with 2020. Overall, imports posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 820% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, Morocco ($X), Algeria ($X) and Nigeria ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 57% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +49.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -12.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 603%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
