As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, benzoyl peroxide and chloride exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Morocco was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 64% of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Africa (11%) and Kenya (10%). Egypt (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to benzoyl peroxide and chloride exports from Morocco stood at +12.9%. At the same time, South Africa (+26.4%), Kenya (+13.0%), Tunisia (+8.3%) and Egypt (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Africa emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Morocco amounted to +11.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (+39.8% per year) and Kenya (+8.9% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 44%. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

For the third consecutive year, Africa recorded growth in purchases abroad of benzoyl peroxide and benzoyl chloride, which increased by 14% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In value terms, benzoyl peroxide and chloride imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 60%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Egypt was the largest importer of benzoyl peroxide and benzoyl chloride in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 42% of total imports in 2022. South Africa (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Morocco (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 40% share of total imports. Tunisia (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +47.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Tunisia, Nigeria, Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +50.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 42%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
