The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -33.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 116% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while South Africa totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+52.2%).

Imports in Africa

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of blood-grouping reagents increased by 1.4% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, blood-grouping reagents imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of blood-grouping reagents, namely Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, Libya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Senegal, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Algeria and Malawi, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +45.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 36% of total imports. Tanzania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Senegal, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Malawi lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Tanzania, with a CAGR of +49.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 47%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
