The total production indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +74.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports in Africa

In 2021, the amount of electrical boards, panels, consoles, desks and cabinets exported in Africa declined to X units, dropping by -9.5% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, posted a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, electric board, desk and panel exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted measured growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 154%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Africa represented the main exporter of electrical boards, panels, consoles, desks and cabinets in Africa, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near 59% of total exports in 2021. Morocco (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Egypt (X units) and Tunisia (X units). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+17.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012-2021. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tunisia (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa and Egypt increased by +32 and +6.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest electric board, desk and panel supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 86% share of total exports. Egypt lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 11%.

Egypt, with a CAGR of +17.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, declining by -29.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 29%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+10.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

Electric board, desk and panel imports totaled X units in 2021, picking up by 10% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 12%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electric board, desk and panel imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Algeria (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented the main importers of electrical boards, panels, consoles, desks and cabinets in Africa, together constituting 40% of total imports. Morocco (X units) held a 9.1% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (7%) and Nigeria (4.5%). Tunisia (X units), Libya (X units), Kenya (X units), Ghana (X units), Cameroon (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Mozambique (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Morocco, Cameroon, Tunisia, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, Libya, Mozambique, Ghana and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

Cameroon, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cameroon ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
