The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, braces and garters exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Morocco prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units), committing a 9.2% share of total exports. South Africa (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to braces and garters exports from Morocco stood at +4.8%. At the same time, South Africa (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Africa emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +7.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tunisia (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -15.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 18%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, imports of braces, suspenders and garters in Africa expanded notably to X units, growing by 8.3% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, braces and garters imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Nigeria (X units) and Tunisia (X units) were the main importers of braces, suspenders and garters in Africa, together creating 45% of total imports. Egypt (X units) took a 9.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by South Africa (9.8%), Morocco (7.2%) and Mayotte (5%). Mauritania (X units), Mauritius (X units), Namibia (X units) and Tanzania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Tanzania (with a CAGR of +28.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported braces, suspenders and garters in Africa, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 12% share.

In Tunisia, braces and garters imports increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (-29.8% per year) and South Africa (+1.8% per year).
