In value terms, appliance part brush exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 34%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa was the major exporter of brushes constituting parts of appliances in Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Rwanda (X units), committing a 26% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tanzania (X units) and Uganda (X units) - each finished at a 4.1% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Rwanda (+200.3%), Tanzania (+18.4%) and Uganda (+17.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Rwanda emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +200.3% from 2012-2022. While the share of Rwanda (+26 p.p.) and Tanzania (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-19.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest appliance part brush supplier in Africa, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uganda ($X), with a 0.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Rwanda, with a 0.7% share.

In South Africa, appliance part brush exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uganda (+16.2% per year) and Rwanda (+184.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. In 2022, approx. X units of brushes constituting parts of appliances were imported in Africa; which is down by -3.7% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +19.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, appliance part brush imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The purchases of the five major importers of brushes constituting parts of appliances, namely South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt and Rwanda, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units), constituting a 4.8% share of total imports. Kenya (X units), Libya (X units), Nigeria (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Angola (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Tanzania (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Rwanda (with a CAGR of +47.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest appliance part brush importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 51% share of total imports. Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria, Angola, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Mozambique, Libya, Rwanda and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Rwanda, with a CAGR of +25.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 12%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Rwanda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
