From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The shipments of the one major exporters of cadmium, namely Swaziland, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Swaziland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cadmium exports, with a CAGR of -52.4% from 2012 to 2022. Swaziland (+99 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Swaziland ($X) also remains the largest cadmium supplier in Africa.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -72.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 2,183%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Swaziland.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Swaziland amounted to +7.2% per year.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of cadmium, when their volume decreased by -24.8% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 3,002% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cadmium imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 207% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

Algeria (X kg) and Tunisia (X kg) dominates imports structure, together generating 91% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X kg), generating a 6.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Tunisia (with a CAGR of +69.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Algeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cadmium in Africa, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with a 26% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Algeria amounted to +58.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+61.1% per year) and Morocco (+1.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 685% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Algeria (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
