In value terms, calcined and sintered dolomite exports reduced sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X tons), distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) were the largest exporters of calcined and sintered dolomite, together achieving 95% of total exports. Zambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Zambia (with a CAGR of +17.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest calcined and sintered dolomite supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Egypt ($X), together comprising 78% of total exports. These countries were followed by Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Zambia, with a CAGR of +54.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zambia (+32.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, purchases abroad of calcined and sintered dolomite increased by 48% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calcined and sintered dolomite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Tunisia was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 48% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Cameroon (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons), together generating a 31% share of total imports. South Africa (X tons), Gabon (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of calcined and sintered dolomite. At the same time, Nigeria (+27.4%), Senegal (+11.6%), Cameroon (+8.8%) and Morocco (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +27.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mozambique (-4.1%), Gabon (-4.6%), South Africa (-10.5%) and Egypt (-24.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria, Cameroon and Tunisia increased by +12, +11 and +6.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cameroon ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 59% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +30.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
