Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, calendars and trade advertising material exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.0% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 23%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

South Africa was the largest exporter of calendars and trade advertising material in Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons), together generating a 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - Egypt (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) - together made up 7% of total exports.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -3.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (+55.0%), Tanzania (+37.3%), Tunisia (+3.5%) and Egypt (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +55.0% from 2012-2022. While the share of Mozambique (+23 p.p.), Tunisia (+3.7 p.p.) and Tanzania (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-25.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Mozambique ($X) and Tunisia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 89% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Mozambique, with a CAGR of +42.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, calendars and trade advertising material export price increased by +95.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 38% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, supplies from abroad of calendars and trade advertising material increased by 0.6% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, calendars and trade advertising material imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Ethiopia (X tons) was the main importer of calendars and trade advertising material in Africa, mixing up 65% of total import. Kenya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +27.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Egypt ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 32% share of total imports. Tunisia, Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, Ghana, Ethiopia, Angola, Burkina Faso and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +13.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -10.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+8.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
