Centrifuges Market Size in Africa

In 2021, the African centrifuges market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Centrifuges Production in Africa

In value terms, centrifuges production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 313% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa

In 2021, exports of centrifuges in Africa shrank dramatically to X units, waning by -43.9% against 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 584%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, centrifuges exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Congo represented the largest exporter of centrifuges in Africa, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was approx. 59% of total exports in 2021. South Africa (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by Sierra Leone (5.7%). Angola (X units), Ghana (X units), Zimbabwe (X units) and Mozambique (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Congo increased at an average annual rate of +30.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sierra Leone (+66.6%), Zimbabwe (+53.7%), Ghana (+39.5%) and South Africa (+12.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sierra Leone emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +66.6% from 2012-2021. Angola experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mozambique (-26.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Congo (+55 p.p.), South Africa (+16 p.p.), Sierra Leone (+5.7 p.p.), Ghana (+2.6 p.p.) and Zimbabwe (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mozambique (-17.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest centrifuges supplier in Africa, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Congo ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled +1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Congo (+9.9% per year) and Angola (+9.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 201% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild slump. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per unit), while Sierra Leone ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Centrifuges Imports

Imports in Africa

In 2021, centrifuges imports in Africa skyrocketed to X units, rising by 60% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +8.1% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, centrifuges imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +69.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X units) represented the main importer of centrifuges, achieving 34% of total imports. Mozambique (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Egypt (8.7%), Nigeria (7.5%) and Kenya (7.1%). The following importers - Tanzania (X units), Botswana (X units), Ghana (X units) and Sao Tome and Principe (X units) - each amounted to a 7.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +34.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported centrifuges in Africa, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a 7.3% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 7.1% share.

In Nigeria, centrifuges imports increased at an average annual rate of +26.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (+13.8% per year) and South Africa (-4.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, falling by -13.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 61% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Sao Tome and Principe ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
