Ceramic Sanitary Ware Market Size in Africa
The African ceramic sanitary ware market expanded markedly to $X in 2022, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware production expanded markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 17%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa
In 2022, the amount of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures exported in Africa shrank markedly to X units, reducing by -30.6% on the previous year. In general, exports recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 254% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 155% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Egypt represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 56% of total exports. Morocco (X units) held a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (20%).
Egypt was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures exports, with a CAGR of +14.5% from 2012 to 2022. Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Morocco (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Egypt (+43 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Morocco (-5.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest ceramic sanitary ware supplier in Africa, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.
In Egypt, ceramic sanitary ware exports increased at an average annual rate of +22.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (-0.7% per year) and Morocco (-5.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, the amount of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures imported in Africa expanded significantly to X units, growing by 13% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 37%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Morocco (X units) and Libya (X units) were the main importers of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures, together mixing up 33% of total imports. The following importers - Mauritius (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Algeria (X units), Namibia (X units), Liberia (X units), Somalia (X units), Ghana (X units), Tanzania (X units), Equatorial Guinea (X units) and Chad (X units) - together made up 28% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ceramic sanitary ware imports into South Africa stood at +13.2%. At the same time, Chad (+33.1%), Somalia (+26.8%), Ethiopia (+15.7%), Liberia (+14.5%), Equatorial Guinea (+13.1%), Mauritius (+11.2%), Morocco (+7.6%) and Namibia (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chad emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +33.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tanzania (-1.9%), Libya (-6.4%), Ghana (-8.5%) and Algeria (-17.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Morocco, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Somalia, Chad, Liberia and Equatorial Guinea increased by +15, +4.1, +3, +2.8, +2.3, +2.1, +1.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest ceramic sanitary ware importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Ethiopia ($X), with a combined 25% share of total imports. Libya, Namibia, Somalia, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Algeria, Mauritius, Ghana and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
Somalia, with a CAGR of +31.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ethiopia (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
