Nigeria was the key exporter of porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use in Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 77% of total exports in 2022. South Africa (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Rwanda (6.7%). Zimbabwe (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 72%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, porcelain technical ware imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Mozambique (+6.4 p.p.), Gambia (+4.5 p.p.), Chad (+3.7 p.p.), Sudan (+3.6 p.p.), Ghana (+3.2 p.p.), South Africa (+3 p.p.), Algeria (+2.5 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.1 p.p.) and Egypt (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -33% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported porcelain ceramic wares for laboratory, technical, and chemical use in Africa, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with an 8.7% share.
