As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-electric chainsaw exports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kenya (X units), generating a 20% share of total exports. Togo (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-electric chainsaw exports from South Africa stood at -1.9%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-electric chainsaw imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the major importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 40% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), Algeria (X units), Kenya (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Uganda (X units), together making up a 30% share of total imports. Zimbabwe (X units), Cameroon (X units), Ghana (X units), Tunisia (X units), Botswana (X units) and Zambia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zimbabwe (+19.8%), Tunisia (+16.7%), Nigeria (+15.1%), Ghana (+14.2%), Tanzania (+13.4%), Cameroon (+12.5%), Uganda (+11.1%), Zambia (+10.9%), Botswana (+10.3%) and Algeria (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +19.8% from 2012-2022. Kenya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Nigeria (+5.5 p.p.), Zimbabwe (+3.1 p.p.), Tanzania (+2.7 p.p.), Uganda (+2 p.p.), Cameroon (+1.8 p.p.), Tunisia (+1.7 p.p.), Ghana (+1.5 p.p.) and Algeria (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kenya and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -15.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chainsaws with a self-contained non-electric motor in Africa, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 8.9% share.
