In value terms, citrus fruit jams and marmalades exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 175%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the largest exporter of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes, committing 54% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons), together creating a 39% share of total exports. Morocco (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -17.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, citrus fruit jams and marmalades export price increased by +50.1% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 33%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Egypt ($X per ton) and Swaziland ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) and Morocco ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes increased by 24% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 63%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruit jams and marmalades imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 52%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Egypt prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 64% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Namibia (X tons), achieving a 7.6% share of total imports. South Africa (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Libya (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Eritrea (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to citrus fruit jams and marmalades imports into Egypt stood at -4.2%. At the same time, Swaziland (+29.6%), South Africa (+1.2%) and Namibia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +29.6% from 2012-2022. Libya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Sudan (-1.1%), Morocco (-4.4%), Nigeria (-6.0%) and Eritrea (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Swaziland, Namibia and South Africa increased by +3.4, +2.8 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes in Africa, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Namibia ($X), with a 3.7% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 3.3% share.
In Egypt, citrus fruit jams and marmalades imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Namibia (-0.6% per year) and South Africa (+0.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -5.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, citrus fruit jams and marmalades import price increased by +41.2% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Eritrea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
