Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+21.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +23.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 34%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Morocco (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +49.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest vegetable or animal colouring matter importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X), together comprising 66% of total imports. Morocco, Senegal, Kenya and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
Senegal, with a CAGR of +59.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
