In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest concrete-mixer lorry supplier in Africa, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Tanzania, with a 5.8% share.

In South Africa, concrete-mixer lorry exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (+18.3% per year) and Tanzania (+20.1% per year).

In 2022, imports of concrete-mixer lorries in Africa skyrocketed to X units, rising by 102% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded buoyant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, concrete-mixer lorry imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa dominates imports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 52% of total imports in 2022. Egypt (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X units). All these countries together took approx. 15% share of total imports. Morocco (X units), Libya (X units), Tanzania (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Guinea (X units), Sudan (X units) and Kenya (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the concrete-mixer lorries imports, with a CAGR of +39.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+15.2%), Egypt (+14.6%), Guinea (+11.0%), Libya (+9.7%), Tanzania (+5.8%), Kenya (+3.4%), Sudan (+3.3%) and Nigeria (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of South Africa (+48 p.p.) and Egypt (+4.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-2.1 p.p.) and Morocco (-2.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest concrete-mixer lorry importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 42% share of total imports. Tanzania, Libya, South Africa, Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Guinea and Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

Among the main importing countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -48.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 3.9% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
