Concrete Mixer Market Size in Africa

The African concrete mixer market soared to $X in 2021, surging by 21% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +53.8% against 2017 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, concrete mixer exports in Africa declined markedly to X units, falling by -27.7% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, concrete mixer exports rose slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Zambia (X units) and South Africa (X units) represented roughly 48% of total exports in 2021. Mali (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Morocco (X units). All these countries together took approx. 20% share of total exports. The following exporters - Burkina Faso (X units), Congo (X units), Angola (X units), Liberia (X units), Senegal (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Benin (X units) - together made up 21% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of +69.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest concrete mixer supplier in Africa, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Congo ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Zambia, with an 11% share.

In South Africa, concrete mixer exports contracted by an average annual rate of -7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Congo (+31.6% per year) and Zambia (+74.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, growing by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Congo ($X per unit), while Liberia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Liberia (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, supplies from abroad of concrete or mortar mixers increased by 17% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concrete mixer imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 78%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the main importer of concrete or mortar mixers in Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 34% of total imports in 2021. Egypt (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (5.5%), Ghana (4.9%) and Libya (4.7%). Algeria (X units), Morocco (X units), Ethiopia (X units), Guinea (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Senegal (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concrete mixer imports into Nigeria stood at +17.3%. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+19.9%), Egypt (+19.4%), Senegal (+18.2%), Libya (+17.2%), Guinea (+14.9%), Ethiopia (+10.0%) and Tanzania (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +19.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Morocco (-1.6%), Ghana (-3.6%) and Algeria (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria, Egypt, Cote d'Ivoire, Libya, Guinea and Senegal increased by +21, +7.1, +3.7, +2.8, +2 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Egypt ($X) and Ghana ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 40% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Guinea and Senegal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +19.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
