Concrete Pump Market Size in Africa

The African concrete pump market fell rapidly to $X in 2021, reducing by -29.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption faced a dramatic decline. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concrete pump production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 4.4%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of concrete pumps increased by 482% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, concrete pump exports fell to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +59.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The biggest shipments were from South Africa (X units), together finishing at 92% of total export.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the concrete pumps exports, with a CAGR of +58.0% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of South Africa (+85 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest concrete pump supplier in Africa.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled +1.6%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -83.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 121% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

For the fifth year in a row, Africa recorded decline in overseas purchases of concrete pumps, which decreased by -17.7% to X units in 2021. In general, imports saw a sharp descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concrete pump imports shrank modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Tanzania (X units), Morocco (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Egypt (X units) represented the key importers of concrete pumps, together constituting 52% of total imports. The following importers - Algeria (X units), Kenya (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units), Senegal (X units), Tunisia (X units), Equatorial Guinea (X units) and Ethiopia (X units) - together made up 22% of total imports.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -53.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Senegal (+38.3%), Ghana (+10.3%), Ethiopia (+5.4%), Morocco (+1.7%), Tanzania (+1.5%) and Egypt (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012-2021. Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (-4.0%), Equatorial Guinea (-4.1%), Mozambique (-5.6%), Tunisia (-6.7%) and Kenya (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+8.8 p.p.), Tanzania (+8.4 p.p.), Morocco (+5.4 p.p.), Mozambique (+4.9 p.p.), Egypt (+4.7 p.p.), Algeria (+3.9 p.p.), Kenya (+3.9 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+3.5 p.p.), Senegal (+2.8 p.p.), Tunisia (+2.8 p.p.), Equatorial Guinea (+2.5 p.p.) and Ethiopia (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by -79.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 28% of total imports. These countries were followed by Algeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Ghana, Senegal, Tunisia, Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea, which together accounted for a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +71.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 802% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while Equatorial Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+116.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
