South Africa was the largest importer of conveyor or transmission belts or belting in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 30% of total imports in 2021. Nigeria (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X tons) and Ghana (X tons). All these countries together held near 20% share of total imports. Morocco (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Mauritania (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Democratic Republic of the Congo (+16.0%), Guinea (+13.9%), Kenya (+9.3%), Mauritania (+7.1%), Tanzania (+6.8%), Ghana (+5.7%), Algeria (+5.4%), Zambia (+5.3%) and Nigeria (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Democratic Republic of the Congo emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +16.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-4.2%), Morocco (-4.4%) and Egypt (-13.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Guinea (+2.1 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+2.1 p.p.), Algeria (+1.8 p.p.), South Africa (+1.8 p.p.) and Ghana (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Morocco and Egypt saw its share reduced by -3% and -9.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest conveyor or transmission belt importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 43% share of total imports. Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Tunisia, Zambia, Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Mauritania and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
Guinea, with a CAGR of +10.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
