South Africa prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Tunisia (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - together made up 4.5% of total exports.

South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the copper tubes and pipes exports, with a CAGR of +5.5% from 2012 to 2021. Tunisia (-2.8%) and Egypt (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-1.6 p.p.) and Tunisia (-2.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest copper tube and pipe supplier in Africa, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tunisia ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to +6.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+1.5% per year) and Egypt (-11.9% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 47% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, copper tube and pipe imports in Africa soared to X tons, increasing by 31% on the year before. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ghana (with a CAGR of +13.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper tube and pipe importing markets in Africa were Algeria ($X), Egypt ($X) and South Africa ($X), with a combined 76% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana and Zimbabwe, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Ghana, with a CAGR of +15.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
