In 2022, shipments abroad of cream fresh increased by 26% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 78%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cream fresh exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 80%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) represented the major exporters of cream fresh in 2022, accounting for approx. 40% and 30% of total exports, respectively. Cream fresh imports contracted rapidly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -17% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cream fresh imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Mali (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Botswana (with a CAGR of +51.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cream fresh importing markets in Africa were Morocco ($X), Mauritius ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together accounting for 32% of total imports. Senegal, Gabon, Cabo Verde, Angola, Mauritania, Libya, Mozambique, Namibia, Mali and Botswana lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

Botswana, with a CAGR of +55.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cream fresh import price increased by +133.0% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
