The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 5,102%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, crude rapeseed oil exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw significant growth. South Africa represented the key exporter of crude rape, colza or mustard oil in Africa, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 79% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), comprising a 21% share of total exports.

In 2022, the amount of crude rape, colza or mustard oil imported in Africa totaled X tons, growing by 2.1% on 2021. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crude rapeseed oil imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Tunisia was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 47% of total imports. Algeria (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Morocco (X tons) and South Africa (X tons). All these countries together held near 51% share of total imports.

In value terms, Morocco ($X), Algeria ($X) and Tunisia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 87% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Africa, which accounted for a further 10%.

Among the main importing countries, South Africa, with a CAGR of +9.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 16%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
