The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 160%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Nigeria represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 46% of total exports. Egypt (X tons) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Africa (17%), Kenya (6%) and Tunisia (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Tunisia (with a CAGR of +36.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Egypt (X tons) was the key importer of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane), comprising 50% of total imports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Algeria (X tons), together creating a 40% share of total imports. Togo (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
