The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 97%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, cyclohexane exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Exports by Country
Burkina Faso dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 96% of total exports in 2021. South Africa (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Burkina Faso was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cyclohexane exports, with a CAGR of +22.9% from 2012 to 2021. South Africa (-20.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Burkina Faso (+63 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-59.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest cyclohexane supplying countries in Africa were Burkina Faso ($X) and South Africa ($X).
Among the main exporting countries, Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +13.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -26.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 79%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+18.7%).
Cyclohexane Imports
Imports in Africa
Cyclohexane imports rose significantly to X tons in 2021, surging by 7.9% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports saw a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cyclohexane imports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 69%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 87% of total imports in 2021. Burkina Faso (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+16.6%) and Burkina Faso (+9.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Burkina Faso and Egypt increased by +4 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cyclohexane in Africa, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 2.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria totaled -2.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+11.1% per year) and Tunisia (-9.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
