South Africa was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 51% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Uganda (X tons), together committing a 46% share of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dairy spread export price decreased by -5.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dairy spread imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. In 2022, Madagascar (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) were the key importers of dairy spreads in Africa, together amounting to approx. 64% of total imports. In Madagascar, dairy spread imports increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Namibia (-11.6% per year) and Morocco (+4.2% per year).

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 60% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed mild growth. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
