It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X kg) and Morocco (X kg), together making up a 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - Swaziland (X kg), Sudan (X kg) and Tunisia (X kg) - each resulted at a 5.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to medical reconstruction cements exports from South Africa stood at +2.3%. At the same time, Tunisia (+75.1%) and Morocco (+47.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +75.1% from 2012-2021. Sudan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Swaziland (-6.4%) and Mauritius (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mauritius (+8 p.p.), Morocco (+6.7 p.p.), Sudan (+1.9 p.p.) and Tunisia (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Swaziland and South Africa saw its share reduced by -3% and -6.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest medical reconstruction cements supplying countries in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Sudan ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports. Mauritius, Tunisia and Swaziland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.7%.

Among the main exporting countries, Mauritius, with a CAGR of +219.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 37% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Swaziland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+14.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, approx. X tons of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements were imported in Africa; jumping by 34% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 119% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, medical reconstruction cements imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
