Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+11.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of dental drill engines imported in Africa surged to X tons, growing by 126% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dental drill engine imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Egypt was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 39% of total imports. Algeria (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Tunisia (16%) and Libya (9.5%). The following importers - South Africa (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up 6.9% of total imports.

Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of dental drill engines. At the same time, Namibia (+40.3%), Algeria (+14.0%) and Tunisia (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +40.3% from 2012-2021. Libya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Africa (-12.1%) and Morocco (-13.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Algeria (+14 p.p.), Tunisia (+8.9 p.p.), Egypt (+8.6 p.p.), Libya (+2.1 p.p.) and Namibia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Morocco and South Africa saw its share reduced by -2.7% and -5.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest dental drill engine importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Algeria ($X), together accounting for 71% of total imports. These countries were followed by Libya, South Africa, Namibia and Morocco, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Namibia, with a CAGR of +53.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -18.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
