In 2021, South Africa (X units) was the key exporter of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood, generating 76% of total exports. The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 20% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

At the same time, Libya (+16.6%), Somalia (+15.6%), Senegal (+14.7%), Mali (+10.7%), Egypt (+8.1%), Swaziland (+4.8%), Lesotho (+4.4%) and Botswana (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Libya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012-2021. Namibia, Ghana and Algeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Morocco (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (+11 p.p.), Libya (+7.8 p.p.), Senegal (+3.2 p.p.), Somalia (+2.8 p.p.) and Mali (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Morocco (-6.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest wooden door importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Libya ($X) and Algeria ($X), with a combined 33% share of total imports. Botswana, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Somalia, Senegal, Mali, Namibia, Swaziland and Lesotho lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +13.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 12%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
