Mauritius (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal window and door exports from South Africa stood at -2.1%. At the same time, Morocco (+29.6%), Egypt (+12.6%), Zimbabwe (+9.5%), Mauritius (+4.8%), Namibia (+4.6%) and Tunisia (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +29.6% from 2012-2021. While the share of Zimbabwe (+6.7 p.p.), Egypt (+3.5 p.p.), Morocco (+1.6 p.p.) and Mauritius (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-11.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest metal window and door supplier in Africa, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Mauritius, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa stood at -4.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+12.7% per year) and Mauritius (+4.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Metal Windows And Doors
Imports in Africa
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of metal windows and doors, when their volume decreased by -2% to X tons. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, metal window and door imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Nigeria (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) represented roughly 41% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), comprising a 5.4% share of total imports. Libya (X tons), South Africa (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Botswana (X tons), Lesotho (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Benin (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +31.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ghana ($X), Egypt ($X) and Nigeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 34% of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Algeria, Libya, South Africa, Sudan, Cote d'Ivoire, Botswana, Tunisia, Benin and Lesotho, which together accounted for a further 32%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +33.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 40%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
