In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 743%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

South Africa was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 55% of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Egypt (6.5%). Zambia (X tons), Sudan (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to double or complex silicates imports into South Africa stood at +32.0%. At the same time, Sudan (+51.0%), Zambia (+14.8%), Nigeria (+14.4%) and Kenya (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth.
