Exports by Country
South Africa was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), achieving a 29% share of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to driving and non-driving axle exports from South Africa stood at -11.5%. At the same time, Morocco (+47.9%) and Tunisia (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +47.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Morocco (+29 p.p.) and Tunisia (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-31.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest driving and non-driving axle supplier in Africa, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.
In South Africa, driving and non-driving axle exports plunged by an average annual rate of -7.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+33.1% per year) and Tunisia (-0.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, driving and non-driving axle export price decreased by -10.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of drive-axles with differential and non-driving axles imported in Africa skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 20% on 2020 figures. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, driving and non-driving axle imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of driving and non-driving axle imports in 2021 were South Africa (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Morocco (X tons), together finishing at 73% of total import. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), achieving a 5.8% share of total imports. Algeria (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons), Libya (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +58.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported drive-axles with differential and non-driving axles in Africa, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +6.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (-1.2% per year) and Morocco (+14.0% per year).
