In 2021, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in the African dry-cleaning machine market, when its value decreased by -62.9% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, recorded resilient growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, dry-cleaning machine production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -21.3% against 2018 indices. In 2021, overseas shipments of dry-cleaning machines were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Overall, exports recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 2,270% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dry-cleaning machine exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 122% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dry-cleaning machine exports from South Africa stood at +8.5%. At the same time, Kenya (+16.7%), Angola (+13.0%) and Mauritius (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2021. Mozambique experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest dry-cleaning machine supplier in Africa, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mauritius ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa amounted to -5.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mauritius (+2.3% per year) and Angola (+39.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, falling by -65.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 839% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mauritius ($X per unit), while Rwanda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+25.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Cameroon ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
