Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +24.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mozambique (+47.6%), Kenya (+16.7%) and Mauritius (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +47.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa, Mozambique, Mauritius and Kenya increased by +40, +6.6, +4.7 and +2.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest agricultural product dryer supplier in Africa, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mozambique ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +26.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mozambique (+209.6% per year) and Kenya (+6.0% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -32.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, agricultural product dryer export price decreased by -40.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 81%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 184% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, agricultural product dryer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 107%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Libya (X units), distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X units), Nigeria (X units), Ghana (X units), South Africa (X units) and Sudan (X units) were the main importers of dryers for the treatment of agricultural products, together creating 67% of total imports.
