This number increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 19%. As a result, the amount of producing animals attained the peak level of X heads. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of this number failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of duck and goose meat increased by 4% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 147% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, duck and goose meat exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 174%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), constituting a 25% share of total exports. Angola (X tons), Swaziland (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -2.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Swaziland (+52.0%), Egypt (+25.8%) and Mauritius (+14.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Swaziland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +52.0% from 2012-2022. Morocco experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Angola (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland and Mauritius increased by +24, +16, +3.1 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest duck and goose meat supplier in Africa, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 19% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -4.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+22.6% per year) and Morocco (+2.0% per year).

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, duck and goose meat imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 38%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Comoros (X tons), Angola (X tons), Liberia (X tons) and Togo (X tons) represented roughly 64% of total imports in 2022.
