The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 64% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to off-highway dumper exports from South Africa stood at -11.0%. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+41.7%), Burkina Faso (+36.1%), Senegal (+6.3%) and Botswana (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +41.7% from 2012-2021. Zambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Burkina Faso (+5.4 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+2.4 p.p.), Botswana (+2.3 p.p.), Senegal (+2 p.p.) and Zambia (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of South Africa (-15.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest off-highway dumper supplier in Africa, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 7.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Zambia, with a 3.5% share.

In South Africa, off-highway dumper exports contracted by an average annual rate of -4.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burkina Faso (+41.7% per year) and Zambia (+6.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, off-highway dumper export price decreased by -7.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of dumpers for off-highway use increased by 40% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, off-highway dumper imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa (X units) and Ethiopia (X units) represented the key importers of dumpers for off-highway use in 2021, recording near 22% and 21% of total imports, respectively. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X units) and Ghana (X units). All these countries together took near 25% share of total imports. The following importers - Namibia (X units), Zambia (X units), Mali (X units), Angola (X units), Botswana (X units), Senegal (X units) and Mozambique (X units) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +55.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Ethiopia ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 46% share of total imports. Ghana, Namibia, Zambia, Mali, Angola, Botswana, Nigeria, Senegal and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

Mali, with a CAGR of +62.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
