From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+4.6% per year) and Namibia (+42.7% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, falling by -46.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 238%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports saw a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. Imports into Egypt increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Algeria (+11.8%), Morocco (+4.7%), Tunisia (+3.8%) and South Africa (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +11.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Egypt increased by +7 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest industrial, laboratory or bakery oven importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), Algeria ($X) and Tunisia ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports.
