Electric Heating Radiator Market Size in Africa

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the African electric heating radiator market, when its value decreased by -22.4% to $X. In general, consumption saw a noticeable slump. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electric heating radiator production expanded remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa

In 2021, shipments abroad of electric storage heating radiators was finally on the rise to reach X units after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electric heating radiator exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units), creating a 25% share of total exports. Namibia (X units) and Kenya (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric heating radiator exports from South Africa stood at -4.7%. At the same time, Namibia (+24.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Namibia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +24.6% from 2012-2021. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kenya (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Egypt and Namibia increased by +8.1 and +3.3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) emerged as the largest electric heating radiator supplier in Africa, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 7.4% share.

In South Africa, electric heating radiator exports declined by an average annual rate of -10.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+6.1% per year) and Namibia (+27.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -27.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, approx. X units of electric storage heating radiators were imported in Africa; dropping by -17.3% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electric heating radiator imports declined notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 125%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of electric storage heating radiators, namely Egypt, Morocco and Kenya, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X units) and Nigeria (X units), together creating a 20% share of total imports. The following importers - South Africa (X units) and Libya (X units) - each amounted to a 4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kenya (with a CAGR of +48.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), Botswana ($X) and Morocco ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 73% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Botswana, with a CAGR of +45.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -11.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per unit), while Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Libya (+14.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
