The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Africa
In 2022, the amount of electrical parts of machinery or apparatus exported in Africa reduced markedly to X tons, shrinking by -26.1% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 129%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, machinery electrical parts exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Morocco (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together making up 75% of total exports. Togo (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.9% share, followed by Nigeria (8.7%). The following exporters - Senegal (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) - each finished at a 3.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +39.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Morocco ($X) remains the largest machinery electrical parts supplier in Africa, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Morocco totaled +29.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (-1.5% per year) and Nigeria (+4.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 65%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+56.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa
In 2022, purchases abroad of electrical parts of machinery or apparatus increased by 0.2% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 38%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, machinery electrical parts imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Mozambique (X tons), distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) represented the key importers of electrical parts of machinery or apparatus, together creating 67% of total imports. The following importers - Libya (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Sudan (X tons) and Cameroon (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to machinery electrical parts imports into Mozambique stood at +27.0%. At the same time, Algeria (+35.7%), Nigeria (+29.3%), Senegal (+21.0%), Ghana (+12.2%), Sudan (+7.7%) and Tanzania (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +35.7% from 2012-2022. Ethiopia and South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Cameroon (-2.8%), Namibia (-5.6%), Tunisia (-9.2%) and Libya (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mozambique (+24 p.p.), Nigeria (+8.8 p.p.), Ghana (+8.2 p.p.), Algeria (+5.2 p.p.), Tanzania (+1.8 p.p.) and Senegal (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Namibia (-1.6 p.p.), Tunisia (-10.4 p.p.) and Libya (-15.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electrical parts of machinery or apparatus in Africa, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Algeria ($X), with a 9.3% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 7.8% share.
In Tunisia, machinery electrical parts imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Algeria (+25.1% per year) and South Africa (-2.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -22.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 54% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
