Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a resilient increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, diagnostic equipment production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports in Africa
In 2021, approx. X units of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus were exported in Africa; jumping by 60% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, diagnostic equipment exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 34%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X units) represented the key exporter of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus, mixing up 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units), generating a 25% share of total exports. The following exporters - Mauritius (X units), Tunisia (X units), Algeria (X units) and Botswana (X units) - together made up 12% of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus. At the same time, Algeria (+22.1%), Mauritius (+21.9%) and Morocco (+16.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +22.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Botswana (-6.1%) and Tunisia (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Morocco, Mauritius and Algeria increased by +19, +3.4 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest diagnostic equipment supplier in Africa, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled -7.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (+35.5% per year) and Tunisia (+4.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, declining by -49.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per unit), while Botswana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+16.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Africa
In 2021, purchases abroad of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus decreased by -5% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -22.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, diagnostic equipment imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 604% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Algeria (X units) and Nigeria (X units) were the largest importers of electro-diagnostic apparatus, and ultra-violet or infra-red ray apparatus in Africa, together amounting to near 32% of total imports. Morocco (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.9% share, followed by Libya (7.5%), South Africa (5.7%) and Kenya (5.6%). Ethiopia (X units), Senegal (X units), Tanzania (X units), Cameroon (X units), Ghana (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Egypt (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Algeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 44% of total imports. Morocco, Libya, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania and Senegal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
Among the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +25.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted slight growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 373%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ethiopia (+19.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
