In 2021, purchases abroad of power tools increased by 22% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, power tool imports stood at $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Algeria (X units), Libya (X units) and Morocco (X units) were the key importers of power tools, together mixing up 69% of total imports. Nigeria (X units), Egypt (X units), Ghana (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Kenya (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Ghana (with a CAGR of +26.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ghana, with a CAGR of +15.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -8.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Libya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
