In 2021, the amount of gas and smoke analysers exported in Africa soared to X units, jumping by 27% against the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, gas and smoke analyser exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -3.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 54%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Congo (X units), comprising an 11% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Morocco (X units) - together made up 7.5% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to gas and smoke analyser exports from South Africa stood at +9.5%. At the same time, Congo (+43.3%), Cote d'Ivoire (+23.0%) and Morocco (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Congo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +43.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-9.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. South Africa (+18 p.p.), Congo (+10 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia saw its share reduced by -8.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest gas and smoke analyser supplier in Africa, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Congo ($X), with a 3.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa totaled +4.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Congo (+31.2% per year) and Tunisia (-16.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Gas and Smoke Analysers
Imports in Africa
In 2021, purchases abroad of gas and smoke analysers increased by 97% to X units, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, gas and smoke analyser imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Morocco represented the main importing country with an import of about X units, which recorded 52% of total imports. Nigeria (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by South Africa (8.3%) and Angola (8%). Egypt (X units), Algeria (X units), Tunisia (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Zimbabwe (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the gas and smoke analysers imports, with a CAGR of +41.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Algeria (+18.7%), Tunisia (+14.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (+13.9%), Nigeria (+5.9%), Zimbabwe (+4.5%), South Africa (+4.2%) and Egypt (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Angola (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Morocco (+47 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-1.7 p.p.), Nigeria (-3.9 p.p.), South Africa (-4.6 p.p.) and Angola (-19 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest gas and smoke analyser importing markets in Africa were Morocco ($X), South Africa ($X) and Algeria ($X), together comprising 53% of total imports.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +29.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -18.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
