Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Kenya and Democratic Republic of the Congo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, South Africa (-5.8%), Ethiopia (-6.4%) and Algeria (-19.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco, Liberia, Egypt, Tanzania, Senegal, Ghana and Libya increased by +6.3, +5.3, +4.5, +3.6, +3.4, +3, +1.9 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported equipment for scaffolding, shuttering, propping or pit propping in Africa, comprising 19% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 7.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.6% share.
