Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ethyl acetate exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 48%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The shipments of the one major exporters of ethyl acetate, namely South Africa, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ethyl acetate. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest ethyl acetate supplier in Africa.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 57% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to -12.0% per year.

In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of ethyl acetate, when their volume decreased by -22.3% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, ethyl acetate imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Nigeria (X tons), distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) represented the major importers of ethyl acetate, together generating 82% of total imports. Morocco (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ghana (with a CAGR of +37.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest ethyl acetate importing markets in Africa were Nigeria ($X), Egypt ($X) and Kenya ($X), together comprising 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Ghana, which together accounted for a further 14%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Ghana, with a CAGR of +39.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 56% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Morocco ($X per ton) and Algeria ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) and Ghana ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
