From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to +29.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zambia (-8.3% per year) and Nigeria (-25.3% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 41% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 179%. In 2021, organ extracts imports in Africa reduced notably to X tons, declining by -28.7% against 2020. In general, imports saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 166% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, organ extracts imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Sierra Leone (+7.3 p.p.), South Africa (+6 p.p.), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+4.6 p.p.), Ghana (+1.8 p.p.) and Algeria (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria and Tanzania saw its share reduced by -6.3% and -9.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported extracts of glands or other organs or of their secretions in Africa, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 5.2% share.
