Plastic Extruder Market Size in Africa
In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in the African plastic extruder market, when its value decreased by -36.5% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a mild reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Plastic Extruder Production in Africa
In value terms, plastic extruder production fell markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 66% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X units of extruders for working rubber or plastics were exported in Africa; jumping by 184% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, plastic extruder exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 167%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Tunisia (X units) and South Africa (X units) prevails in exports structure, together generating 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units), comprising a 7.1% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Mozambique (X units), Tanzania (X units), Togo (X units), Senegal (X units) and Kenya (X units) - together made up 17% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +54.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Mozambique ($X) and Kenya ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 62% share of total exports.
Tunisia, with a CAGR of +135.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, waning by -49.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 270%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+9.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Plastic Extruder Imports
Imports in Africa
In 2021, supplies from abroad of extruders for working rubber or plastics increased by 14% to X units, rising for the fifth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, plastic extruder imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the largest importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 51% of total imports. Morocco (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Egypt (X units). All these countries together held approx. 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Togo (X units), Ghana (X units), Zambia (X units), South Africa (X units), Kenya (X units) and Algeria (X units) - together made up 13% of total imports.
Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kenya (+22.1%), Togo (+18.9%), Zambia (+16.0%), Tanzania (+10.4%), Cote d'Ivoire (+9.4%), Ghana (+4.6%), Morocco (+2.3%) and Algeria (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +22.1% from 2012-2021. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria increased by +19 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Egypt ($X) and Algeria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 44% of total imports. South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Togo and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
Among the main importing countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +42.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+19.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
