In value terms, festive articles exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +75.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the largest exporter of festive or carnival articles, mixing up 50% of total exports. Egypt (X tons) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ethiopia (5.1%). The following exporters - Tunisia (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - each reached an 8.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Rwanda (with a CAGR of +98.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Tunisia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 88% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +56.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 61%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of festive or carnival articles were imported in Africa; stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 57%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, festive articles imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons), followed by Ethiopia (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Libya (X tons) were the main importers of festive or carnival articles, together committing 50% of total imports. Djibouti (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Angola (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Guinea (with a CAGR of +64.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Algeria ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 36% share of total imports. Libya, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria, Guinea and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Among the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +52.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Libya ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
