Fire Extinguisher Market Size in Africa

The African fire extinguisher market rose markedly to $X in 2022, growing by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fire extinguisher production expanded significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -4.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, exports of fire extinguishers in Africa shrank rapidly to X units, dropping by -60% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fire extinguisher exports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 56%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Egypt (X units) was the key exporter of fire extinguishers, making up 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X units), mixing up an 11% share of total exports. The following exporters - Namibia (X units), Morocco (X units), Kenya (X units) and Nigeria (X units) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to fire extinguisher exports from Egypt stood at +17.7%. At the same time, Nigeria (+21.5%) and Morocco (+11.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +21.5% from 2012-2022. Kenya experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Namibia (-8.0%) and South Africa (-44.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Egypt (+69 p.p.), Namibia (+3.2 p.p.), Morocco (+3.1 p.p.), Kenya (+2.7 p.p.) and Nigeria (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of South Africa (-87.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Kenya ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 70% of total exports. Morocco, Namibia and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.3%.

Nigeria, with a CAGR of +22.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -14.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 2,699%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+51.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X units of fire extinguishers were imported in Africa; picking up by 24% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fire extinguisher imports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 14%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, South Africa (X units), distantly followed by Nigeria (X units), Ghana (X units), Morocco (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Egypt (X units) were the main importers of fire extinguishers, together mixing up 66% of total imports. The following importers - Tanzania (X units), Kenya (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Algeria (X units) and Ethiopia (X units) - together made up 14% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Tunisia (with a CAGR of +15.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fire extinguisher importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Morocco ($X), with a combined 44% share of total imports. Algeria, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -22.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 625% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+36.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
