The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 53%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, complex fluorine salts exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 28%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Tunisia represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 78% of total exports. Mozambique (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Cameroon (6.3%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to complex fluorine salts exports from Tunisia stood at +1.3%. At the same time, Mozambique (+120.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Tunisia ($X) remains the largest complex fluorine salts supplier in Africa, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cameroon ($X), with a 4.4% share of total exports.

In Tunisia, complex fluorine salts exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cameroon (-1.8% per year) and Mozambique (+81.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cameroon (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, complex fluorine salts imports in Africa soared to X tons, with an increase of 161% compared with the year before. Overall, imports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 1,184%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, complex fluorine salts imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 567%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -57.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep slump.
